Garrett T. Lewis is a PhD candidate in the Department of History at the University of Iowa. He earned a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in history and English literature, and MA in history, from Mississippi College. His research broadly focuses on the social and cultural histories of the New England colonies, as well as the colony of New France. His dissertation specifically examines how anti-French rhetoric was utilized in multiple discursive spaces, by groups and individuals with varied and sometimes conflicting purposes, across the colonial period in New England; this project re-assesses conventional interpretations of national and religious prejudices in the colonial Northeast and seeks to supplement studies of related phenomena in the post-revolutionary period.
