Danielle Hoskins is a visiting assistant professor of history at the University of Iowa. She earned a BA in history from the University of Iowa (2012), MA in history from the University of Iowa (2015), and PhD in history with a concentration in American women’s political history from the University of Iowa (2023). She also holds a graduate certificate in Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Iowa (2016).
Dr. Hoskins has taught many historical subjects, but her specialization is primarily on modern American history, including American women in politics and social movements, and issues of gender, citizenship, and public action in 20th century America. Her courses focus on incorporating historical analysis of primary sources and developing skills in writing and critical thinking. She previously taught as a graduate instructor at the University of Iowa and as an adjunct instructor at Southeastern Community College.
Dr Hoskins’ research centers on American women in politics and women’s clubs in the American postwar (~1945-1965). Her PhD concentrated on homemakers who were elected to state legislatures in the postwar, having become community leaders and political volunteers at a time when some defined citizenship and American womanhood by active involvement in civic affairs. She is particularly interested in the intersections between citizenship, gender, and collections of material culture, especially in political scrapbooks.
